John Barrett has practiced law in Colorado since 1975. He is a member of the Boulder County Bar Association, the Colorado Bar Association and the American Bar Association and has been a member of the Colorado Trial Lawyer's Association. He has been the chair of the Boulder County Family Law Committee and the Boulder County Bar Association Small Firm Committee. John is a member of the Board of Directors of Metropolitan Lawyers Referral Committee and has been the President of that organization. John is a member of the Boulder Interdisciplinary Committee, an organization of attorneys and mental health professionals dealing with custody issues.

John has served as the Associate Judge of the Municipal Court of the City of Louisville, Colorado. John has authored articles for the Boulder County Bar Association Newsletter and presented at Continuing Legal Education seminars for the Boulder County Bar Association. He is a contributing author for The Practitioner's Guide to Colorado Domestic Relations Law, Second Edition, 2014, published by Colorado Bar Association Continuing Legal Education.
